Call for Performers! The Encounter Workshop & Audition, January 27, 2024
Providence RI. Created in partnership with Motion State Arts!
The Encounter is an intergenerational physical-theatre project being developed with diverse communities around the world merging professional, pre-professional, and non-professional performers.
The work pulls from what we are currently carrying in our bodies – grief, hope, fear, desire, newfound power –
and pairs it with our dreams in this moment of reconciliation with time, as we dig our lives out of the pandemics of this age.
The burgeoning result is a cross-geographic, global conversation about the ferocious power of the body
as a form of communication and the potency of movement
as a connective language.

The Encounter at Crossing the Line (2022), was created in partnership with the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) in New York City, New York.
ITALIA
The Encounter: Italia (2022) was created in partnership with WomanMade, a project of the Italian Ministry of Culture in partnership with Jacob's Pillow and American Dance Abroad.
AKRON
The Encounter: Akron (2023), created in partnership with The National Choreographic Center at Akron (NCCAkron), and Rubber City Theatre in Akron, Ohio.
BUFFALO
The Encounter: Buffalo (2022) was created in partnership with Torn Space Theater in Buffalo, New York.
ROCKLAND
Crossing the Line performances of The Encounter were made possible, in part, through FIAF’s commissioning funds; generous grants from NYS DanceForce and the Nathan M. Clark Foundation; Virginia B. Toulmin Fellowship for Women Leaders in Dance at the Center for Ballet and the Arts @ NYU; creative development residencies at Tremper Arts; a generative partnership and residency with Torn Space Theater (Buffalo); and individual donations from John Robinson and other patrons
