You are My Heat and Glare unfolds in a series of viscerally provocative, mixed-genre duets for dancers, designers and voice artists. This evening-length work features a unique duet for Bartosik and her longtime collaborator, lighting designer Roderick Murray, who joins her onstage. Inspired by Anne Carson’s poetic essay “The Anthropology of Water”, the work grapples with the rawness of intimacy, asking: What are we made of but hunger and rage? Dancers Joanna Kotze and Marc Mann and singers Gelsey Bell and Dave Ruder complete the extraordinary cast.

The creation of You are my heat and glare is made possible, in part, with support from the Jerome Foundation, commissioning funds from New York Live Arts and New Music USA’s Live Music for Dance. The piece was created during creative development residencies at Mount Tremper Arts, Jacob’s Pillow, Merce Cunningham Trust, Center Performance Research (through support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation), and New York Live Arts Studio Series.
The European Premiere of You are my heat and glare was presented at Festival Rencontreshoreographiques Internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis (France) in May 2013. European premiere performances were supported by FUSED (French-US Exchange in Dance), a program of the New England Foundation for the Arts in partnership with The Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French American Cultural Exchange, and The Transit Fund from American Dance Abroad. The piece was presented as an Avant-Premiere in September 2012 during the BEAT Festival: the Brooklyn Emerging Artists in Theater.
