5 (2000)

“5” is a dance/multi-media work for five female dancers in the Dance Department at University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill. For this work, Bartosik created three distinct environments, each of which challenged the performer(s) in different physical and sensorial ways. In the first section, the soloist is kept off balance through being physically restricted; the second section shows a woman on a balance beam, carrying a bowl of viscous liquid while performing difficult technical feats; in the third, two women who move in unison evoke images of roots and life beneath the earth’s surface.
